Get Your Fix at These Great Java Picks

Without coffee every day, my life simply wouldn’t be the same. In fact, just about every night I get ready for bed, I think about how I can’t wait to wake up and smell the aroma of fresh brewed breakfast blend. After one sip, my senses perk up and the day begins with a smile. Call it an addiction if you will, I don’t care. It’s true that I’m hooked on the zip I get from my favorite beverage. Let me tell you about some of the best places to grab a cup of Joe on the Iron Range.

Natural Harvest Coffee Bar & Deli

Rangebuzz.com’s newest member, Natural Harvest Coffee Bar & Deli, located on 3rd Street North on Bailey’s Lake, sells a wide selection of whole bean organic and free trade coffees. They, too, whip up a variety of espresso drinks—mochas, cappuccinos, lattes and other specialty drinks. Check out their organic teas ranging from unique herbal blends to the most popular black and green tea varieties. Besides ordering a cup of fresh coffee, I can never resist having a bowl of their homemade, original recipe soups. Most are vegetarian recipes, loaded with fresh vegetables, lentils and herbs. My favorite, Savannah Beans & Greens, is packed with several bean varieties, Swiss chard, tomato and other good stuff that nourishes your body and warms up your belly! Feel free to bring your laptop to Natural Harvest, because they offer free wireless Internet.

New York Bagel

Virginia’s newest coffee and bagel shop, New York Bagel, fills the need for a downtown coffee house. Located on Chestnut Street next door to Deli-icious, New York Bagel bakes up a number of bagels flavors—onion, 8-grain, sun-dried tomato, French toast, blueberry swirl, cinnamon raisin, chocolate chip, cranberry orange, and apple cinnamon! What adds a special touch to these yummy bagels are the homemade SCHMERES. What’s a schmere, you ask? Definition: awesome cream cheese concoctions to top your bagel. Very Berry ranks as a customer favorite, but we also have honey butter nut, veggie, green olive, garlic dill and cranberry orange. Try one of their Some drinks Java chillers:

  • Black Forest Chiller–encompasses the traditional flavors of a black forest cake
  • Vanilla Cream Pie
  • Creamy Caramel (customer favorite)
  • Monkey Business–made with Hershey’s chocolate and fresh bananas

Brewed daily are three different blends of coffee daily, including a dark roast, flavored coffee and a decaf selection. Their menu includes all your favorite espresso drinks including some original concoctions. They offer free wi-fi, which makes New York Bagel a great spot for having business meetings, typing a college report or playing on MySpace. Stop in and experience Virginia’s newest coffee house, New York Bagel.

Big Timber Coffee

This cute, rustic little cabin brews some of the best tasting coffee around. The fresh roasted beans burst with a flavor that sends your taste buds to Happyland. Big Timber also offers a full selection of beverages from mochas and lattes, to fruit smoothies and Chai tea. If you’re hungry be sure to try a fresh scone baked locally by Mary’s Morsels. The shop’s inside is small, but cozy. Because they also offer free wi-fi, I love to stop in, check my email or catch up on some reading. Outside, Big Timber sports roomy deck seating. They also have a DRIVE THRU for those times you need a jolt, don’t want to skimp on quality, but are pushed for time. Heck, buy a bag of their house blend to take home. This little gem of a coffee shop certainly makes my lists of favorites.

These coffee shops make great havens for studying, getting together with friends for conversation, or just relaxing and enjoying your coffee drink or special beverage.
